Formally part of ‘Ardest Barrers along with other Lewisham based artists, Slaughter and Mischief, Kozzie’s early years saw him release Ragz Volume. 1 and Ragz Volume. 2, both of which received great support from the grime world. Already MCing over instrumentals produced by the likes of Wiley and Dot Rotten, it was clear that Lewisham’s newest member of the UK urban music scene was set for huge future success.
2010 and 2011 were key periods for Kozzie. Spartan Remix (featuring Marger, Merky Ace, Rival, Ego and Scrufizzer) received over 250,000 views, leading the way for his debut LP The Problem’s Started (released on No Hats No Hoods) which featured popular tracks I’m Famous and Grime and Grind.
In 2012 Kozzie made an appearance on the third edition of the iconic Lord of the Mics series, which saw him become a regular at venues across the UK and Europe as well as being played on Rinse FM, BBC Radio 1Xtra and Kiss FM with his single Yeah which was MistaJam’s Hot Jam of the week on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
Keeping Grime at the core of his music but developing a style that appeals to casual radio listener, his ability to fuse fast, honest bars with production true to his artistry keeps Kozzie on the frontline of the best MC’s out right now.
Doing it Alone sees Koz take charge of his career, music and image and still makes you want to bounce around with him as he states, ‘I’m flying the flag with the mandem, when you hear us on a tune it’s an anthem!’ Rightly so! Carrying listeners through with his gritty cadence and sharp, direct rhymes, the latest track is simply a small taste of what to expect from our boy this year.
